Looking to get your FSC (Firearm Safety Certificate)? Start here with this comprehensive study guide: FSC Study Guide. This is your first step. Study the material thoroughly, and when you're ready, take the test at a licensed firearm dealer. Once you've passed the test, let me know. I can guide you through the next steps, such as purchasing a firearm. After buying your gun, we can meet to go over your options and help you choose the one that suits you best. From there, practicing with your firearm will be essential to prepare for the qualification test required for obtaining a CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) permit. When you’re ready to begin the CCW application process, start here: CCW Application Portal. Kim and I will also be available to answer all your questions on June 28th from 12–2 PM at the Hi-Desert Rod and Gun Club. Feel free to join us or use the resources above to guide you. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need assistance along the way!
What is Your Cancellation Policy?
All courses are non-refundable. However, if you contact us in advance of the scheduled class date, the course fee can be applied toward another course. We appreciate your understanding, as significant preparation goes into organizing these classes. No-shows not only impact our efforts but also take away an opportunity for someone else who could have attended.
This was our first time hosting a Basic class as a birthday request, and it was an absolute blast! Chiara wanted to celebrate her 21st birthday by learning how to shoot, so she brought along six of her friends. Together, they had an amazing time mastering the basics and creating unforgettable memories.

Subject: Thank You for Registering – Riverside CCW Initial Class (16 Hours)
Hi,
Thank you for registering for the Riverside County CCW Training Class on September 20 and 21, 2025!
We’re excited to have you join us for this essential training experience.
A few days before the course, I’ll send out a reminder with all the key details, including what to bring and how to prepare. In the meantime, if you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to me directly—I'm here to help!
As a tip, it’s a great idea to practice with each firearm you plan to list on your CCW permit. This will help you feel confident and prepared for the qualification portion of the class!
- Qualification includes three tasks:
From 15 yards, fire six rounds from a holstered position, reload, and advance to 10 yards as directed.
From 10 yards, fire six rounds from a holstered position, reload, and advance to 7 yards as directed.
From 7 yards, fire six rounds, until ammunition is expended. Clear and show a safe firearm afterward.
- You are required to bring a Kydex IWB (inside-the-waistband) holster for each firearm, which will undergo a safety inspection. The holster must be specifically designed for your gun—universal or generic holsters are not permitted. It must also feature proper retention. All holsters must adhere to department guidelines and should be the same ones you intend to use for concealed carry. Leather, nylon, fabric, belly band, or collapsible holsters are strictly prohibited.
- We recommend holsters from reputable brands such as Vedder, Whole Guns, Blade-Tech, Tulster, Phlster, and Houdini Holsters. These companies produce holsters that meet all essential safety standards.
We’d love to stay connected with you. Be sure to check out our websites for more training opportunities and updates:

Hi Mike,
Ready to get your FSC (Firearm Safety Certificate)? Start with this FSC Study Guide. This is the first step in the process. Study the material thoroughly, and when you feel confident, take the test at a licensed firearm dealer. Once you pass the test, you'll be ready to move on to the next step—purchasing your firearm.
For concealed carry, I recommend starting with a 9mm caliber handgun. If you have physical limitations, a .380 caliber or even a .22 might be a better fit for you.
The 9mm is a popular choice because it offers excellent stopping power while being more stable and accurate due to its weight and larger barrel. Here are a few models I recommend:
- Glock 19
- Glock 29 (smaller, but slightly harder to shoot)
- Sig Sauer X-Macro
- Sig Sauer Rose
- Sig Sauer 365X
- Springfield Hellcat Pro
- Smith & Wesson Shield PRO (not the Shield 2.0)
When choosing a firearm, focus on quality, how well it fits your hand, and whether your finger can easily reach and operate the trigger. Also, ensure you can comfortably rack the slide.
Note: You can list up to six firearms on your Riverside County CCW permit.
When you're ready to begin your CCW application, start here: CCW Application Portal. Complete the application and submit it. Afterward, you'll be placed in line with the Sheriff’s CCW unit for processing. You'll be required to schedule an interview and a live scan, after which they will conduct a background investigation.
Once you've reached this stage, practicing with your firearm is essential to prepare for the qualification test required for obtaining your CCW permit. If you're confident you'll pass the background check, you can sign up for a CCW Initial Training Class. That's where I come in—I offer this class! Let me know when you're ready to get started.
For more information, visit fight-or-flight.org. Click on the "Courses" tab to see class dates, and check out the "How to Get a CCW" section for additional details not covered here.
If you have any questions, feel free to call, text, or email me anytime.
Best,
Sue

Hi Kim,
Thank you for your email. I hope your test went well yesterday—please keep me updated when you get the results!
I noticed during Saturday’s Mental Health video that you seemed to check out. I could tell you weren’t feeling great about how it was going.
I’d really like to continue working on this with you. We have two months until our next class, so maybe we can meet a few weeks beforehand to review everything and finalize how we want to approach it. We can also discuss scheduling and other details then.
Here’s what I’m thinking: if we have four or fewer students, one of us can handle the class alone. If there are five or more, we should both be there. For groups of four or fewer, we could rotate who does the class. I don’t think either of us is interested in doing one-on-one sessions, though. When Chip feels ready, he can always sign up for the class again.
You know, when I’m with Dakota, I’m with someone who knows more, shoots better, and has more charisma than I do. But I choose to embrace that—I learn, stumble, and improve. I take classes, push myself, and try to get better.
Sometimes, I question my skills and value as an instructor, especially when I compare myself to others. But I know I enjoy doing this. I may not be the best, and sometimes I feel invisible in group settings, but I think we all feel like that at times.
Let’s keep running these classes and see if we can attract more students. If we don’t, we can reevaluate and adjust from there.
By the way, I’m in San Diego right now. Mom reminded me yesterday about my commitment on October 5th for the Holster Day class, which means you’ll be running it solo. I know you’ll do an amazing job! I can send you the presentation ahead of time so you’ll have everything you need to prepare.
Lets talk soon.
